I specialize in new designs carved in authentic period styles. Advanced knowledge of architectural periods gives our clients an artistic element that suits the individual tastes of the client, architect or designer. I work with the best carvers, builders, sculptors and artisans in Europe and America. I achieved the title of Master Carver from the Master Carver’s Association of Great Britain. My formal stone training, figurative sculpture/drawing and architectural drafting influences the quality of my work.
I apprenticed at Chichester Cathedral in England at the age of 16. My training was in medieval and classical architectural ornament on English Cathedrals and parish churches. Working on Westminster Abbey with one hundred men gave me a wealth of experience. They had trained in shops with 400 men after World War II. I wasn’t just learning from the work I was carving, I also learned from the work the older men were carving. The legacy of English stone carving has been passed down to me from master carvers who worked on Medieval cathedrals and classical homes. My training on restoration of missing stone work has made me an expert at recreating work in a style that is not my own.
I like to carve limestone, sandstone, marble and granite. Variety in the material I carve makes me grow as a sculptor. I maintain a full set of chisels for each material as our projects vary. I enjoy design work, drafting, model making and finally the carving. There’s nothing more satisfying than carving a large piece of stone with just a hammer and chisel- the way its been done for thousands of years. I’ve come to enjoy large sculptures as they are more challenging.
“All work is custom. I achieved the title of Master Carver from the Master Carver’s Association of Great Britain. My formal stone training, augmented with figurative sculpture/drawing and architectural drafting, influences the quality of my work.”
